LEVEL TWO: CGC
- Course Duration: 6 weeks - 8 weeks
- Pre-Requisite: completion and pass of level one
So you have completed level one and want to continue training with your dog?
The Canine Good Citizen concept came originally from The American Kennel Club in U.S.A. under the direction of its secretary Mr James Dearinger and was launched in September 1989. The Canine Good Citizen TM officially started in South Australia in April 1992. It was developed to address growing anti dog feelings, promote responsible dog ownership in a manner that would be easy for both dog and owner.
The CGC award requires a different skill set to those required in competition obedience, as the focus is on the real life skills that companion dogs should have.
If your dog has:
- attended class with a CGC instructor and
- is over 12 months old,
then you are invited to undertake the test at the end of the course.
The level two class is built around developing the skills necessary for this test. If your dog is under 12 months, or not ready for the test at the completion of the course then you are still welcome to attend the course and can take the test at a later date if you chose to.
To ensure fair and impartial assessment, a different accredited instructor is required to supervise and mark the test. Your class instructor will be there to help, but does not grade you and your dog.
Dog and Guardian are assessed on:
- Getting out of the car safely and under control
- loose lead walking and waiting by a doorway
- a mock veterinary examination
- greeting people politely
- walking closely by the guardian's side and executing a sit, drop and turns in both directions
- walking calmly through a crowd full of different real life distractions
- effectively calming the dog after an exciting play session
- a sit or down stay of 8 metre
- shows polite behaviour in the presence of another dog at a distance of 1 metre
- recall and reattach lead
- tolerate separation of the owner when left on lead with a different person
- and finally, an owner education written test which is completed at home one to two weeks before the practical.
The level two class with Billy's Daycare for dogs Pty Ltd includes the CGC award as well as the six/eight week course. This award is a nationally accredited test, which means it is recognised all over Australia.
LEVEL TWO: FILM AND TV WORKSHOP
- Course Duration: 6 weeks
- Pre-Requisite: completion and pass of level one
Do you fancy your dog as a talented individual?
Have you and your dog attended a level one dog training class?
Are you committed to daily at home training between lessons?
Does your dog have an outstanding temperament and personality?
As an alternative to the CGC course, Billy's also offers a level two course where dogs and owners will have the oppurtunity to see just how dogs are trained for film and television work. The workshop is built around developing the skills necessary for the final filming day. Our head trainer, Desma McLeod, has trained animals for mini series, film and commercial work, and at the end of this workshop your dog may be invited to participate in a high quality production (with professional directors, actors and set dressers) and take home a special DVD short film to show your friends and family.
For both of the above classes you will be required to bring to class:
- Your dog's vaccination certificate
- Soft collar and leash - no chain collars/leashes and no retractable leashes
- Your dog's favourite food treats & toys
- A comfortable mat for your dog to lie on
